Bucky Bockhorn is an American former professional basketball player best known for his seven seasons as a guard with the Cincinnati Royals in the National Basketball Association.

Arlen Dale "Bucky" Bockhorn was born on July 8, 1933, in the small coal-mining town of Campbell Hill, Illinois. He stood 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighed 200 pounds during his playing days. Bockhorn played as a shooting guard.

High School and College Career

Bockhorn attended Trico High School in Campbell Hill, Illinois, before playing college basketball at the University of Dayton from 1955 to 1958.

At Dayton, he was a three-year starter and co-captain as a senior, helping the Flyers to a combined 69–17 record, a UKIT championship, and three NIT appearances. His senior year team finished 25–4 and reached the NIT finals. Bockhorn was later named to Dayton’s Hall of Fame and was named to the university’s All-Century Team.

Professional Career

Bockhorn was selected by the Cincinnati Royals in the third round, 17th overall in the 1958 NBA Draft. He played his entire seven-year NBA career with the Royals from 1958 to 1965, starting alongside Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson for five years.

He was part of multiple playoff teams and played a key role in the Royals' deep postseason runs, including a trip to the 1963 Eastern Division finals. A knee injury curtailed his career 19 games into the 1964–65 season.
