Block was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 27th overall pick in the third round of the 1966 NBA Draft. He played one season with the Lakers before joining the San Diego Rockets, where he quickly became a standout.He later played for the Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, Kansas City–Omaha Kings, New Orleans Jazz, and Chicago Bulls, finishing his NBA career in 1976.
After retiring as a player, Block enjoyed a lengthy coaching career, leading programs at UC San Diego, Gordon College, Bethany College, and Point Loma Nazarene.
