David Bing is an American former professional basketball player, businessman, and politician. He played 12 seasons in the National Basketball Association as a point guard for the Detroit Pistons, Washington Bullets, and Boston Celtics, and later served as the 74th mayor of Detroit, Michigan, from 2009 to 2014.

After his basketball career, Bing became a successful businessman, founding Bing Steel and the Bing Group, and was named National Minority Small Business Person of the Year in 1984. He published his autobiography, "Attacking the Rim," in 2020.
High School and College Career
Bing attended Spingarn High School in Washington, D.C. He played college basketball at Syracuse University from 1963 to 1966, where he was a consensus first-team All-American in 1966 and a third-team All-American by the NABC in 1965.Bing led the NCAA in scoring during his senior season and had his No. 22 jersey retired by Syracuse.
Professional Career
Bing was selected by the Detroit Pistons with the second overall pick in the 1966 NBA Draft. He played for the Pistons from 1966 to 1975, earning NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 1967 and leading the NBA in scoring in 1968.Bing was a seven-time NBA All-Star and was named the NBA All-Star Game MVP in 1976.
He was selected to the All-NBA First Team twice and the Second Team once. Bing finished his career with the Washington Bullets (1975–1977) and Boston Celtics (1977–1978).
He played 901 NBA games. The Detroit Pistons retired his No. 21 jersey in recognition of his contributions.
After retiring, Bing founded Bing Steel and later the Bing Group, becoming a leading figure in Detroit's business community. He entered politics and served as Mayor of Detroit from 2009 to 2014.
