Youth Career
Fontecchio did not play high school or college basketball in the United States. He played for the junior, star, and youth teams of Virtus Bologna in Italy.
Professional Career
Fontecchio began his professional career in 2012 with Virtus Bologna. After being selected twice for the Italian League All-Star Game.
In 2016, Fontecchio signed with Olimpia Milano, playing there until 2019. He then had stints with Reggio Emilia and Alba Berlin before signing a three-year deal with Baskonia in 2021.
In July 2022, Fontecchio signed a two-year contract with the Utah Jazz, he has previously gone undrafted in the 2017 NBA Draft. He made his NBA debut on October 19, 2022.
Fontecchio set career-highs of 24 points twice with the Jazz in the 2023-24 season. On February 8, 2024, he was traded to the Detroit Pistons. As of 2024, he still plays for the Pistons.
