He is the son of Wesley Matthews who is a former professional basketball player as well as a two-time NBA Champion.

High School and College Career

He attended James Madison Memorial High School in Madison, Wisconsin. While in high school, he was named Wisconsin Mr. Basketball.

Later, he committed to play college basketball for Marquette University and was there from 2005 to 2009. In 2009, he was named to the Second-team All-Big East.

Professional Career

Matthews went undrafted during the 2009 NBA Draft, but he later signed with the Utah Jazz. He remained with the Jazz until 2010. He was then traded to the Portland Trail Blazers and was there through to 2015.

In 2015, he signed with the Dallas Mavericks. In 2019, he signed with the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers before settling with the Milwaukee Bucks.

From 2020 to 2021, he signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, and from 2021 to 2023, he returned to play for the Bucks. In 2023, he signed with the Atlanta Hawks.
