Mike Woodson is a former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association. Teams he has played with while in the NBA included the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also coached in the NBA and won an NBA Championship as an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons in 2004.

High School and College Career
Woodson attended Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Later, he played college basketball for Indiana University Bloomington and was there from 1976 to 1980.1979, he was named to the Fourth-team All-American – NABC, and in 1980, he was named to the Second-team All-American – NABC.
Professional Career
Woodson turned pro in 1980 and was selected in the 1st round of the NBA Draft as 12th overall by the New York Knicks. In 1982 he signed with the New Jersey Nets but in the same year, he signed with the Kansas City/Sacramento Kings.From 1986 to 1988, he played for the Los Angeles Clippers then he played for the Houston Rockets from 1988 to 1990. In his last season in the NBA, the 1990-1991 season, he played for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
He started coaching in 1996 and was an assistant coach for a number of NBA teams including the Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Detroit Pistons. He was an assistant coach for the Pistons when they won the 2004 NBA Championship.
From 2004 to 2010, he was the head coach for the Atlanta Hawks. He went back to an assistant coaching position with the New York Knicks in 2011. They promoted him to head coach in 2012.
In 2014, he moved to being an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers, then the Knicks again from 2020 to 2021. In 2021, he started coaching the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team.
