Chuck Person is a former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association. He also served as an assistant coach, most notably to the Los Angeles Lakers. Person was on the coaching team when the Lakers won the 2010 NBA Championship.

He is the brother of Wesley Person who also played in the NBA. He has three children with his ex-wife Carmen Person. He was involved in the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men’s basketball corruption scandal. In 2019, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.

High School and College Career

Person attended Brantley High School in his hometown of Brantley, Alabama. In 1985, he was named the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year.

He later committed to play collegiate basketball for Auburn University. While there, he was named to the 1986 Third-team All-American – NABC. The Tigers later retired jersey number 45 in his honor.

Professional Career

He turned pro in 1986 when he was drafted by the Indiana Pacers into the NBA. He was selected 4th Overall in the first round. In 1987, he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year. He was also named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

He played with the Pacers through to 1992 when he signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves. In 1994, he signed with the [[San Antonio Spurs], and in 1999, he signed for a short time with the Charlotte Hornets. His last season as a player in the NBA was the 1999-2000 season. He played this with the Seattle Supersonics.

In 2000, he started his assistant coaching career with the Cleveland Cavaliers. From 2005 to 2007, he was part of the coaching team for the Indiana Pacers, and for the 2007-2008 season, he was an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings.

From 2009 to 2013, he was hired as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers and in 2010, they won the NBA Championship. From 2013 to 2014, he coached Jeonju KCC Egis, and from 2014 to 2017, he was an assistant coach for Auburn University.
