High School and College Career
He attended Braddock High School in his hometown. Knight went on to play college basketball for the University of Pittsburgh from 1971 to 1974. While in college, he received All-American honors and the Pittsburgh Panthers later retired jersey number 34 in his honor.
Professional Career
Knight was drafted into the NBA in 1974, selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round as the 21st overall pick of the draft. He was then traded to the Indiana Pacers and played with the team from 1974 to 1977.
In 1976, he was named an ABA All-Star. In 1977, he was named an NBA All-Star. In 1978, he signed to play for the Boston Celtics and was named an NBA All-Star for the second time.
From 1979 to 1983, he played for the Indiana Pacers, and from 1983 to 1984, he played for the Kansas City Kings. The 1984-1985 season was his last season in the NBA. He played for the San Antonio Spurs. For the 1985-1986 season, he played for the CSP Limoges in France.
