Arvydas Sabonis is a former professional basketball player from Lithuania. He played in the National Basketball Association with the Portland Trail Blazers as well as for Lithuanian and European basketball clubs. In 1985, he was named the EuroBasket MVP. He was also named the Mr. Europa Player of the Year twice. In 1986, he won the FIBA Club World Cup while playing with BC Zalgiris.

Professional Career

Sabonis started his professional career playing for BC Zalgiris. He helped the club with the FIBA Club World Cup in 1986. In 1989, he joined Valladolid and was there until 1992. From 1992 to 1995, he played for Real Madrid in Spain. In 1991 and 1992, he was named the Spanish All-Star Game MVP. He was also the Spanish League MVP in 1993 and 1994.

In 1995, he finally joined the Portland Trail Blazers. He had been drafted into the NBA back in 1986 but he chose to focus on his career in Europe instead. In 1996, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Team. He played with Portland through to 2001.

In the 2001-2002 season, he played for Zalgiris again. He returned to Portland for the 2002-2003 season before retiring to Zalgiris for his final season as a professional basketball player.
