Simmons declared for the NBA in 1990. He was the 7th overall pick in the first round, chosen by the Sacramento Kings. He played his entire career for the Kings. In 1991, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
In 1997, chronic injuries forced him to retire from the NBA.
