Dan Majerle is a former professional basketball player and coach in the National Basketball Association. He also coached the men’s basketball team at Grand Canyon University. As an NBA player, he was a three-time NBA All-Star and played under the Phoenix Suns, and the Miami Heat.

Daniel Lewis Majerle was born on September 9, 1965, in Traverse City, Michigan in the United States of America. He stands 198 cm tall and his weight was last listed at 101 kg.

He is the owner of the sports restaurant franchise Majerle’s. The former basketball player is married to Tina Majerle. They have four kids, including Max Majerle who also plays basketball. In addition to basketball, Majerle also enjoys playing golf.

High School and College Career

He attended Traverse City High School in his hometown in Michigan. He went on to play collegiate basketball for Central Michigan University. In 1988, he was named the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year. The Michigan team also retired his jersey number.

He held the point record at Michigan until Marcus Keene broke the record in the 2016-2017 season.

Professional Career

Majerle was drafted into the NBA during the 1988 NBA Draft. He was selected 14th overall in the first round by the Phoenix Suns. He played for the Suns through to 1995. During that time, Majerle was named an NBA All-Star three times. He was also named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team three times while he played with the team.

He was also instrumental in helping the team reach the 1993 Finals after the Suns acquired Charles Barkley. In his last year with Phoenix, he led the team in three-point field goals and attempts.

At the end of the 1994-1995 season, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He played with the team for a season before signing with the Miami Heat. He was used as a starter for most of his career with the Heat. In 2001, he returned to the Suns. He retired soon after.

In 2008, he started serving as an assistant coach for the Suns, he would hold the position until 2013. In 2013, he started coaching the men’s basketball team at Grand Canyon University.
