Cedric Maxwell is a former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association. He last played for the Houston Rockets. He is a two-time NBA Champion and in 1981, he was named the NBA Finals MVP. The Boston Celtic retired Maxwell’s No.31 jersey number when he left the NBA.

Cedric Bryan Maxwell was born on November 21, 1955, in Kinston, North Carolina. He stands 203 cm tall and his weight was last listed at 93 kg.His college teammate Melvin Watkins gave him the nickname ‘Cornbread’ after they watched the movie, ‘Cornbread, Earl, and Me’. He did not like the nickname and it did not get much use until he was named the NIT MVP in 1976.
High School and College Career
Maxwell attended Kinston High School in North Carolina. He later went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 1973 to 1977. While there, he was named the 1977 Sun Belt Player of the Year. In the same year, he also received All-American honors.Professional Career
In 1977, he was drafted into the NBA, and chosen 12th overall by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the NBA Draft. He played 9 nine years with the Celtics. During that time he helped the team win the NBA Championship twice. Maxwell was also named the NBA Finals MVP.From 1985 to 1987, he played with the Los Angeles Clippers. And in 1987, he signed with the Houston Rockets before eventually retiring from the NBA.
After the NBA, Maxwell coached in the United States Basketball League for the Long Island Surf in 1996. He was also a co-host of the radio show The Big Show.
