Andy Phillip was a former professional basketball player and coach in the National Basketball Association. In 1957, he was part of the Boston Celtics team that won the NBA Championship. Phillip was named an NBA All-Star five times in his career. He has also been named to the All-NBA Second Team.

High School and College Career

He attended the Granite City High School and he helped lead his team to win the IHSA State Championship. He later went on to attend the University of Illinois. While in college, he received All-American honors. In 1943, he was named the Sporting News Player of the Year.

Professional Career

He was drafted into the NBA during the 1947 NBA Draft, chosen by the former NBA team, Chicago Stags. Phillip was with the Stags until they were dissolved in 1950. He played in the first five NBA All-Star games from 1951 to 1955. In that period, he was also the NBA Assists Leader in 1951 and 1952. In 1957, when he was playing with the Boston Celtics, he won his first NBA Championship.

He retired from the NBA in 1958. After he retired, he served as the coach for the St. Louis Hawks for 10 games. He also spent time coaching in the American Basketball League.
