Terry Porter is a former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association. The last team he played for in the NBA is the San Antonio Spurs. He also served as a basketball coach in the NBA and for the University of Portland. Porter is a two-time NBA All-Star.

Terry Porter was born on April 8, 1963, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He stands 191 cm tall and his weight was last listed at 88 kg. He is the youngest of six children and he enjoys playing golf recreationally. He is married to Brianna Porter and they have three kids together.

High School and College Career

He played high school basketball for the South Division High School in Milwaukee. He later attended the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point from 1981 to 1985. During that time, he received All-American Honors. In 1984 and 1985, he was also named the WIAC Player of the Year.

Professional Career

Porter joined the NBA during the 1985 NBA Draft. He was the 24th overall pick and was chosen in the first round. He played with the Portland Trail Blazers for an entire decade from 1985 to 1995. While with the team, he was named an NBA All-Star twice, the first in 1991 and again in 1993.

From 1995 to 1998, he played for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Later in 1999, he shortly signed up with the Miami Heat before going to the San Antonio Spurs. He played with the Spurs until he retired from the NBA in 2002.

He quickly took on the role of Assistant Coach for the Kings for the 2002-2003 season. He then moved to coach the Milwaukee Bucks and then he became an assistant coach again, this time for the Detroit Pistons. From 2008 to 2009, he coached the Phoenix Suns, and from 2011 to 2014, he was an assistant coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

After coaching in the NBA, he moved to coach at the University of Portland. He was removed from the coaching position in 2021.
