Dick McGuire was one of the best basketball players of his generation. He was a star at both the high school and college levels before going on to enjoy a successful career in the NBA. He has played for the New York Knicks and the Detroit Pistons.

Richard Joseph McGuire was born in The Bronx, New York, on August 4, 1926. He attended James Monroe High School, where he played basketball and baseball. McGuire then attended St. John's University, where he played basketball for three years.Career
Following his collegiate career, McGuire was drafted second overall by the New York Knicks in 1949. McGuire played for the Knicks for nine seasons, averaging 8.4 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game. He was a five-time All-Star named to the All-NBA Second Team in 1954. He would play 11 seasons in New York Knicks, becoming one of the team's most popular players. He was named an All-Star seven times and helped the Knicks win the NBA Championship in 1970.After retiring from playing, McGuire became head coach of the Knicks. He led the team to the NBA Finals in 1973, but the Los Angeles Lakers ultimately defeated them. McGuire later served as an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993. Dick McGuire died on February 3, 2010, at the age of 84.
