High School and College Career
McGowens attended Wren High School in Piedmont, South Carolina. Later, he transferred to the Legacy Early College in Greenville, South Carolina. In 2021, he was named South Carolina Mr. Basketball. He also played in the Jordan Brand Classic that year.In 2022, he committed to play college basketball for the University of Nebraska and he was there from 2021 to 2022. Also in 2022, he was named to the Third-team All-Big Ten and the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
Professional Career
McGowens turned pro in 2022. He was selected in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft. The Minnesota Timberwolves chose him in the second round. They later traded him to the Charlotte Hornets.He signed with the Hornets in 2022. From 2022 to 2023, he also played for the Hornets’ associate NBA G League team, the Greensboro Swarm.
His contract was later converted to a multi-year deal in February 2023.
