Kai Martinez Jones was born on January 19, 2001, in Nassau, Bahamas. He and his family moved to the United States when Jones was 11 years old.

High School and College Career

He attended Orlando Christian Prep in Orlando, Florida. Later, he transferred to Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

Jones committed to play college basketball for the University of Texas and was there from 2019 to 2021. In 2021, he was named the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year.

Professional Career

Jones turned pro in 2021 when he was drafted into the NBA by the New York Knicks. He was a first-round pick. The Knicks later traded him to the Charlotte Hornets. He officially signed with Charlotte in August.

In September 2023, he was suspended by the team after displaying bizarre behavior on social media. In October 2023, he publicly requested a trade on Twitter and was waived by the Hornets shortly after.

As of January 2024, he is a free agent.
