Tim Bassett was an American professional basketball player who played in both the American Basketball Association (ABA) and National Basketball Association (NBA). He is best known for his time with the New York Nets - New Jersey Nets franchise.

He attended McKinley High School. Later, Bassett played college basketball for the University of Georgia from 1971 to 1973.Professional Career
Bassett's professional basketball career began in 1973 when he was selected by the Buffalo Braves in the 7th round of the NBA draft as the 106th overall pick.However, Bassett never played for the Braves, instead he started his career in the American Basketball Association (ABA) with the San Diego Conquistadors. He played for the Conquistadors from 1973 to 1975.
He then joined the New York Nets (later New Jersey Nets) in 1975, where he would spend the most significant portion of his career. It was with the Nets that Bassett achieved his greatest success, winning an ABA Championship in 1976, just before the ABA-NBA merger.
After his time with the Nets, Bassett had a brief stint in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs in 1980.
He then concluded his professional career overseas, playing for Turisanda / Cagiva Varese in Italy from 1980 to 1982. He last played professionally in 1982.
