Dana Barros is an American former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association. In 1995, he was named an NBA All-Star and was the NBA Most Improved Player while playing for the Philadelphia 76ers. He also spent time with the Detroit Pistons, Seattle SuperSonics, and Boston Celtics.

He has two sons, Jordan and Jayson Barros, both of whom attended Boston College. Jordan played basketball, while Jayson participated in tennis.

High School and College Career

He attended Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, where he was a standout basketball player, scoring 1,821 points and earning the 1985 Catholic Conference MVP award.

Barros was also a talented football player, receiving Division I scholarship offers.

He played college basketball at Boston College from 1985 to 1989. During his time at BC, he became the first player in school history to score over 2,000 points, finishing with 2,342 points.

He was named Big East Rookie of the Year in 1986 and earned First-team All-Big East honors in 1988, as well as Second-team All-Big East recognition in 1987 and 1989.

Barros' number 3 jersey was retired by Boston College on February 25, 2017.

Professional Career

Selected 16th overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 1989 NBA Draft, Barros began his professional career as a backup to Gary Payton.

He played for the SuperSonics from 1989 to 1993 before being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in 1993.

In Philadelphia, Barros experienced a breakout season in 1994-95, earning an NBA All-Star selection and being named the league's Most Improved Player.

He set an NBA record by making at least one three-pointer in 89 consecutive games.

Barros returned to his hometown to play for the Boston Celtics from 1995 to 2000, serving as a role player and mentor to younger players like Antoine Walker and Paul Pierce.

He later played for the Detroit Pistons from 2000 to 2002 before concluding his NBA career with a brief stint back with the Celtics in 2004.
