Jewell Loyd is a professional American basketball player for Liga Femenina de Baloncesto of Perfumerias Avenida of Spain and WNBA’s Seattle Storm. Loyd was drafted first overall in WNBA 2015 by Seattle Storm. She also played basketball during her college years at Notre Dame.

Jewell Loyd was born on October 5, 1993, in Lincolnwood Illinois, to the couple Calvin Loyd and Gwendolyn Davis-Loyd. Her father comes from an energetic and athletic family. Calvin Loyd is a tennis instructor and her very first coach while her mother Gwendolyn is a retired educator.

Career

Jewell Loyd was drafted by Seattle Storm in the WNBA Draft 2015. She played as a point guard before her WNBA career but with Sue Bird as Storm’s point guard, Loyd played as the shooting guard instead. Loyd played about 34 games with 23 starts for Storm in her season as a beginner.

In her second game season, she became a star player and Storm’s starting shooting guard with an average of 16.5 ppg. During this season, she scored 32 points in a victory against Phoenix Mercury. Jewell Loyd was named to the ALL-WNBA Second Team.

Her offensive 33 scorings increased in the 2017 basketball game season. She garnered a score of 33 points in the 75 to 71 loss to Phoenix Mercury. In July 2018, Loyd scored 31 points in the 78 to 65 win against Connecticut Sun. She was voted in the WNBA All-Star Game in the same year. This makes her very first all-star career appearance.

Loyd scored a season-high 23 points on June 21, 2019, while she ties five 3-pointers in the 82-64 win over LA Sparks. The 2020 season was shortened to only 22 games due to the pandemic. Loyd scored 35 points in the 90 to 84 loss to Indiana Fever on August 20, 2020. In 2021, Loyd scored 37 points. This is the most points earned by a player in the 2021 game season.
