Sylvia Fowles is a professional basketball player who is currently playing for the Minnesota Lynx as a central player. She gained recognition for being the Most Valuable Player in 2015 and WNBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2016. In 2020, Fowles exceeded Rebekkah Brunson’s record in the most number of rebounds.

Sylvia Shaqueria Fowles was born and raised in Miami, Florida, where she attended Edison Senior High School. She spent her first two years in Edison before admitting to Gulliver Preparatory School. As a junior in Gulliver, she led her team to the Class 3A state championship, which earned her a McDonald’s All-American recognition.
After her fruitful years in high school, she was admitted to Louisiana State University and she became a great help to the team as they were included in the NCAA Final Four. In 2008, she became SEC Player of the Year, where she broke the record for rebounds and led her team to the Final Four.

Currently, Fowles is still studying at a mortuary science service, where she finds interest in cremation and embalming. This dream of hers started when her grandmother died.
Career
Fowlers joined the 2008 WNBA Draft and became second overall selected by the Chicago Sky. She also debuted with a score of 10.8 points and 2.1 blocks per game. In 2009, she attempted her luck in the WNBA All-Star Game but went unsuccessful. 2011 was productive, as she won the WNBA Defensive Player of the year, so she resigned with Sky after her rookie contract expired. Her stay with the Sky lasted until 2014, and she moved forward with the Minnesota Lynx.
She was also part of Team USA for the 2005 World University Games Team, where they competed in Izmir, Turkey. She was also chosen to represent her country at the 2008 Summer Olympics, 2010 FIBA World Championship, and 2012 Olympics.
