Patty Mills is a professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association. He is originally from Australia and as of 2023, he plays for the Atlanta Hawks. Also in 2022, he was given the NBA Sportsmanship Award.

He attended Saint Mary’s College and their varsity decided to retire jersey no.13 in honor of Mills.

He was drafted into the NBA in 2009 by the Portland Trail Blazers. He helped Australia win their first-ever men’s basketball medal at the Olympic Games with a bronze at Tokyo 2020.

College Career

He attended St. Mary’s College in California. While there, he was awarded the 2009 WCC Newcomer of the Year Award. He was also named to that year’s WCC All-Freshman Team.

NBA

He was drafted into the NBA by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2009. He was not able to participate in the Summer League that year because of a fractured metatarsal. In October, he signed with the Trail Blazers and they assigned him to their D League team, the Idaho Stampede. He debuted in the NBA in January 2010.

In 2011 and 2012, he spent time playing internationally. In 2011, he played for the Melbourne Tigers, and in 2012, he played for the Xinjiang Flying Tigers. After he was released from his contract with Xinjiang, he signed with the San Antonio Spurs.

He was a part of the team that won the 2014 NBA Championships. In 2021, he signed with the Brooklyn Nets. In 2022, he was awarded the NBA Sportsmanship Award.

In 2023, he signed with the Atlanta Hawks.
