During his senior year in high school, he was named a McDonald’s All-American and North Carolina Mr. Basketball in 2014. He was also included in the USA Basketball U16, where he and Justin Jackson won the gold medal.
Because of his remarkable high school performance, he received an offer from the University of North Carolina. However, he sustained an early left foot injury in his freshman season. After recovering, he became an effective defensive player whose expertise is based more on passing and defense.
In 2017, he helped lead his team to win the NCAA Championships.
Professional Career
Pinson went undrafted during the 2018 NBA Draft. He was selected by the New York Knicks but they waived him, making him a free agent. Instead, he signed with the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets also had him play with the Long Island Nets.
In November 2020, the Knicks convinced him to re-sign with them in a two-way contract. He was eventually assigned to play with the Westchester Knicks, the NBA G League.
In 2021, he played for the Maine Celtics. Then from 2021 to 2023, he was with the Dallas Mavericks, playing for a short while with the Texas Legends in 2021. In 2023, he signed with the Legends.
