Jay Arnette is a former American professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association for the Cincinnati Royals. He also won a gold medal as a member of the United States men's national basketball team at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.

Arnette attended McCallum High School in Austin, Texas. He then played college basketball for the University of Texas from 1957 to 1960. At Texas, Arnette was a three-year letterman and helped lead the Longhorns to the Southwest Conference championship in 1960.

In 1960, he was named the SWC Player of the Year and he was also named to the First-team All-SWC.

Professional Career

Arnette was selected by the Cincinnati Royals with the 9th overall pick in the 2nd round of the 1960 NBA Draft. However, he did not join the NBA immediately, instead competing in the 1960 Olympics.

Arnette played two seasons in the NBA for the Cincinnati Royals from 1963 to 1965. In his NBA career, he averaged 3.7 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.

International Career

Arnette was a member of the gold medal-winning United States men's national basketball team at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. The team, which included future Hall of Famers Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Walt Bellamy, went undefeated in the tournament.

In 2010, the 1960 United States men's Olympic basketball team was collectively inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
