High School and College Career
He attended Greenfield School High School in Wilson, North Carolina. Later, he committed to play college basketball for North Carolina University and was there from 2018 to 2019.
At that time, he was named to the 2018 McDonald’s All-American. He was also that year’s North Carolina Mr. Basketball.
Professional Career
He turned pro in 2019 and was selected in the 2019 NBA Draft, chosen 7th overall by the Chicago Bulls. He signed with the Bulls in the same year.
In 2020, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. In 2021, he had surgery on his left shoulder and did not return to active play until September. In January 2023, he signed a three-year contract extension with the team.
