High School and College Career
McConnell attended the Chartiers Valley High School. For college, he initially attended Duquesne University. He later transferred to the University of Arizona.When he was in Arizona, he was named to the First-team All-Pac-12. He was also an AP honorable mention All-American.
Professional Career
He went undrafted during the 2015 NBA Draft. He later signed with the Philadelphia 76ers and he played with them in the NBA Summer League.He debuted in the NBA in October of that year. In 2018, the team announced that they were making use of the two-year option of their contract with McConnell.
In July 2019, he signed a contract with the Indiana Pacers. He was a part of the team as they entered the 2020 NBA Bubble. He was re-signed by the Pacers in 2021. It was a 4-year deal that was reportedly worth US$35 million.
In December 2021, he underwent surgery for a wrist injury. He returned to playing in 2023. As of the start of 2024, he still plays for the Pacers.
