Evan Mobley was born on June 18, 2001, in San Diego, California to parents Eric and Nicol. His father is Eric Mobley who played basketball professionally internationally. His older brother played for USC. His mother is an elementary school teacher. His brother Isaiah Mobley also plays in the NBA.

High School and College Career

He attended the Rancho Christian School in Temecula, California. While in high school, he was named the Gatorade Player of the Year. He was also named the Morgan Wootten Player of the Year.

He was considered a five-star recruit by the time he was in his senior year. He received offers from the University of Washington and the University of California Los Angeles. He later decided to commit to playing for the University of Southern California.

While in college, he was named the 2021 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and the 2021 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year.

Professional Career

In 2021, he declared for the NBA and he was considered by many as one of the top recruits for that year, alongside Cade Cunningham. He was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round. He was their third overall pick.

He signed with the Cavaliers in August 2021 and he made his NBA debut in October. In December 2021, he made a record for being the first Cavs rookie since LeBron James to make 5 blocks in an NBA game.

In 2022, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team, and in 2023, he was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team.

In December 2023, the Cavaliers announced that he was undergoing knee surgery. He is estimated to miss playing for six to eight weeks.
