Roderick “R. J.” Hampton Jr. is a professional basketball player who is currently playing for the Orlando Magic as the team’s shooting guard and point guard. Hampton was born in Dallas, Texas, but grew up in Little Elm, Texas, where he studied his education. Hampton attended Little Elm High School and played as a varsity player for the basketball team.
High School and College Career
When Hampton was a freshman, he led Little Elm High School into winning against Naaman Forest High School and recorded 33 points. Overall during that season, he posted 23.6 average points with 7.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists. Because of his spectacular performance, he was awarded MaxPreps Freshman All-American first team and Dallas Morning News All-Area Newcomer of the Year.
Hampton eventually attended Montverde Academy for their extensive basketball program before he made a comeback to Little Elm High School. His performance had improved more as he skyrocketed an average of 30.3 points with 8.8 rebounds, which led his team to win again. He also won MaxPreps Sophomore All-American first team and USA Today All-Texas first team during his sophomore year.

Due to his performance, Hampton was rated as a five-star recruit. While he is a good basketball player at a young age, still he was indirectly involved in a scandal where Christian Dawkins contacted Hampton to pay him, where his father had denied having ever met Dawkins.
Venturing to New Zealand Breakers
In 2019, Hampton joined the New Zealand Breakers as he skipped college basketball to play with professional players. The New Zealand Breakers is one of the projects of the National Basketball League, which targets to join the NBA Draft soon. In September 2019, he was one of the players who led the team to win against Melbourne United with his 11-point contribution.
On December 11, he missed a month due to a hip injury. Upon returning in January, he contributed another 11 points to the team. By the following month, he was sent to the USA for the 2020 NBA Draft.
NBA Career
Hampton was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks with pick 24, however, he was traded to the Denver Nuggets instead. In December 2020, he signed with the Nuggets, where he played 25 games with them. In March 2021, he was released by the Nuggets and traded to the Orlando Magic for Aaron Gordon and Gary Clark.
