Shaivonte Aician Gilgeous-Alexander was born in Toronto, Canada on July 12, 1998, but he was raised in Hamilton, Canada with a former track star mother named Charmaine Gilgeous.His father, Vaughn Alexander, is the main influence on why he pursued basketball as he coached him to become a basketball player during his youth.
High School and College Career
Unlike any other basketball player, Gilgeous-Alexander wasn’t able to make it through the junior basketball team. Instead, the school made him join the midget basketball squad, where he ended up winning MVP.During his sophomore year, he decided to transfer to Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Tennessee. During his senior year, he managed to record 18.4 points with 4.4 rebounds.
Gilgeous-Alexander was rated as a 4-star recruit by ESPN. During his college years, he decided to attend the University of Kentucky and started playing as the team’s reserve player.
Professional Career
Gilgeous-Alexander turned pro in 2018 and was the 11th overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft, selected by the Charlotte Hornets. He was later traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. In 2019, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.He played for the Clippers from 2018 to 2019 before they traded him to the Oklahoma City Thunder. While with the Thunder, he was named to the 2023 All-NBA First Team. That year, he was also named an NBA All-Star for the first time in his career.
In 2024, he was named an All-Star again.
