D.J. Augustin

D. J. Augustin is a professional basketball player from the United States of America. He plays in the National Basketball Association. Most recently with the Los Angeles Lakers where he played as a point guard. He did not make an appearance in the 2022-2023 season despite signing with the Houston Rockets in 2023.

High School and College Career

DJ lived through Hurricane Katrina. This forced him out of his hometown of New Orleans and he ended up attending Hightower High School in Texas. At the same time, he earned his diploma and played basketball for the team at Brother Martin High School.

He had a great High School Career and was named to the McDonald’s All-American and the Fourth-Team All-American in 2006. By the time he was a senior, he was rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com.

He signed with the University of Texas to play for the Longhorns. In his junior year, he was named to the Big 12 All-Rookie Team and the Second-team All-Big 12. In his sophomore year, he was featured on the cover of the November 2007 Sports Illustrated cover alongside Joseph Jones.

In 2007, he was named to the First-Team Academic All-American. In 2008, he was awarded the Bob Cousy Award.

Professional Career

DJ declared himself for the NBA in 2008. He was selected by the Charlotte Bobcats. He was picked in the first round of the draft and he was their ninth overall pick. He made his NBA debut in October of the same year.

He stayed with the Bobcats until 2012. From then, he would jump from team to team including the Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons, Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks, Houston Rockets, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

In 2023, he reportedly signed a contract with the Houston Rockets but he did not make an appearance since the 2022-2023 season.
