Kevin Porter Jr. is an American professional basketball player. From 2019 to 2023, he played in the National Basketball Association. He is a free agent at the start of 2024. He used to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Houston Rockets.

Bryan Kevin Porter Jr. was born on May 4, 2000, in Seattle, Washington, to Kevin and Jennifer Porter. He has two brothers, Kevin II and Jeffrey, and one sister, Jazmine. When Porter Jr. was three years old, his father was killed in a drive-by shooting. His mother raised Porter Jr. and his siblings as a single parent.

He began playing organized basketball when he was five years old. He played AAU basketball for the Seattle Rotary Styles, where he was teammates with future NBA players Jamal Crawford and Aaron Brooks.

High School and College Career

Porter Jr. attended Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, where he played high school basketball for the Vikings.

As a senior, he averaged 27 points, eight rebounds, and four assists per game, leading Rainier Beach to a state championship. Porter Jr. was named the Washington State Player of the Year and a McDonald’s All-American. He was also named the 2018 Washington Mr. Basketball.

He initially committed to play college basketball for the University of Oregon before changing his commitment to Southern California (USC).

Professional Career

The young shooting guard was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2019 NBA Draft. He was then traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He played for the Cavaliers from 2019 to 2021.

In 2021, he was traded to the Houston Rockets. He signed a two-way contract with the team that also had him play for their NBA G League Affiliate team – the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Also in 2021, he was named to the All-NBA G League First Team. He also led the G League in assists that year.

He signed with the Rockets full-time in 2022. Then in 2023, he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. They waived him shortly thereafter.

In 2023, he was arrested for domestic violence charges for allegedly assaulting his then-girlfriend Kysre Gondrezick. He would later plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault and second-degree harassment.
