Derrick Favors is an American basketball player who plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the National Basketball Association. He has also played for the New Jersey Nets, New Orleans Pelicans, and the Utah Jazz.

Derrick Bernard Favors was born on July 15, 1991, in Atlanta, Georgia. He stands 206 cm tall and his weight was last listed at 120 kg. He is a power forward and shoots right-handed.

High School and College Career

He played high school basketball for the South Atlanta High School. By the time he was a senior, he was rated as one of the top recruits in the country by recruiting agencies. In 2009, he was named Mr. Basketball USA.

He later committed to play for Georgia Tech University. He had also received offers from the University of Georgia and North Carolina State University. While in Georgia Tech, he was named the ACC Rookie of the Year.

Professional Career

He joined the NBA in 2010 and was the third overall pick in the first round, chosen by the New Jersey Nets. When he debuted for the team, he was only 19 years old and 104 days, which made him the youngest player to ever debut for the team.

In 2011, he was traded to the Utah Jazz. He signed a four-year contract extension with the Jazz in October 2013. In July 2019, the Jazz traded him to the New Orleans Pelicans but in 2020, he was traded back to the Jazz and signed a US$27 million contract with them.

In 2021, the Jazz traded him again, this time to the Oklahoma City Thunder. In March 2022, he was ruled out for the remainder of the season, citing lower back soreness.
