Detlef Schrempf is a former professional basketball player and assistant coach in the National Basketball Association. He is a three-time NBA All-Star while with the Seattle SuperSonics. Schrempf was also twice named the NBA Sixth Man of the Year.

High School and College Career
Before he moved to the United States, he played for the youth division of the Bayer Giants Leverkusen. He then went on to attend Centralia High School in Washington. For college, he attended the University of Washington.
While in university, he was named to the First-team All-Pac-10 twice. In 1985, he was named to the Third-team All-American – NABC.
Professional Career
In 1985, he was drafted into the NBA and was the 8th overall pick, selected by the Dallas Mavericks. He played with the Mavericks from 1985 to 1989. From 1989 to 1993, he played with the Indiana Pacers.
As a Pacers, he was named the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 1991 and 1992. In the 1992-1993 season, Schrempf was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics. He stayed with Seattle through to 1999 and while with the team, he was named an NBA All-Star three times.
The SuperSonics let him go in 1999 and he signed with the Portland Trail Blazers. He played his final years in the NBA with the Trail Blazers. He retired in 2001.
He returned to the NBA in 2005 when he coached for the Supersonics. He was an assistant coach for the team from 2005-2007.
