Anthony Mason was a professional basketball player from the United States of America. He played in the National Basketball Association, with the Charlotte Hornets, Miami Heat, and the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Continental Basketball Association. He also played internationally in Turkey and Venezuela.

Player Profile and Personal Life

Anthony George Douglas Mason was born on December 14, 1966, in Miami, Florida. He died on February 28, 2015, in New York City, New York. Mason stood 203 cm tall and his weight was last listed at 116 kg. Most of his childhood was spent in Queens in New York.

His son Anthony Mason Jr. played college basketball for St John’s University. He died after suffering from a heart attack in February 2015.

College and Professional Career

He attended Springfield Gardens High School in his hometown of Queens, New York. Later, he went on to play college basketball for Tennessee State University. He played there from 1984 to 1988.

He was drafted into the NBA in 1988, chosen by the Portland Trail Blazers as third overall. He did not sign with Portland, instead, he played for the Turkish team Anadolu Efes Spor Kulubu. In 1989, he debuted in the NBA, playing for the New Jersey Nets.

From 1990 to 1991, he played for four teams – the Denver Nuggets, Marinos de Oriente, Tulsa Fast Breakers, and the Long Island Surf.

In 1991, he settled into his first long-term professional stint with the New York Knicks. He played with the Knicks through to 1996. In 1995, he was named the 1995 NBA Sixth Man of the Year. He then played for the Charlotte Hornets from 1996 to 2000. While with Charlotte, he was named to the 1997 NBA All-Defensive Second Team and the All-NBA Third Team.

In 2000, he played for a season with the Miami Heat and then later played for two seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks before retiring. In 2001, he was named an NBA All-Star for the first time in his career.
