There were four games in the WNBA on Saturday, June 14, 2008.
The Detroit Shock defeated the Phoenix Mercury 89-79. The Shock have benefitted from their rookie Alexis Hornbuckle (setting a team record with 15 rebounds), meantime the Mercury just can’t get on track.
The New York Liberty delivered another defeat to the Minnesota Lynx, a heartbreaking loss by one point, 77-76. The Lynx had been down by 16 in the fourth quarter and managed to come back within a point, but they cxouldn’t make that final, winning basket.
The Houston Comets took care of the Seattle Storm, 68-60. Sheryl Swoopes, who had left the Storm for the Comets as a free agent during the off-season, was unable to bring her new team a win.
And finally, the Los Angeles Sparks overcame a lethargic start (they’d played - and won - the day before) to defeat the Sacramento Monarchs, 74-66. Candace Parker had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Sparks. Lisa Leslie scored 14 points and blocked four shots.
On Sunday, June 15, 2008, there was only one game, in which the San Antonio Silver Stars defeated the Indiana Fever, 70-60. Tamika Catchings, who has been out hurt the entire season for the Fever, was unable to help her team to the win.
This was the second time within a week that the Fever had faced the Silver Stars, with the same result, a loss.
