The Nets have cap room this summer for the NBA free agency bonanza that includes the likes of LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwayne Wade.
The Nets are also part-owned by rapper Jay-Z, and are moving to Brooklyn, NY, in the near future.
Minnesota has forward Al Jefferson as a centerpiece to build around, but he cannot carry an entire team, especially with his young age.
The Timberwolves found a sensational guard to pair with Jefferson at the 2008 NBA Draft, selecting USC shooting guard OJ Mayo.
But Mayo was traded on draft night for UCLA forward Kevin Love, among other players involved in the deal.
Love is a good player, but he is not an impact player. Mayo would have sold tickets and scored points.
Drafting two point guards in the top 10 last year at the draft was also baffling. One of them, Spanish phenom Ricky Rubio, is not even playing in the NBA, choosing to remain at Barcelona.
The Timberwolves must rebuild through the draft, and that means drafting impact scorers, and adding a center as well.
