Don Nelson is yet not up on his feet and is still feeling the effects of pneumonia. The 69-year-old Golden State Warriors coach will be missing the team’s upcoming 5-game road trip. Nelson is said to have feeling lethargic at the game against Houston on Thursday, 2nd November, 2009. He broke down in sweat while attending a media session after the game.
While Nelson is out, assistant coach Keith Smart coached the team for 5 games including 24th November game that Warriors played with only 6 players. Nelson admitted of feeling alright at times and suddenly getting an anxiety attack that leaves him down for no good. “I am up and down. I feel good and then I feel bad. It’s a crazy thing. So we’ll see how it goes. I’m not sure I should go on this next trip or not but I’ll make that decision after I coach these two games, see how I feel and how things are going. I have to be smart.” Nelson expressed to the media.
The Warriors are expected to play Orlando on Saturday, 5th November, 2009. Nelson has been advised by his doctors to have some rest but cleared an OK to coach the team is he wants to. Currently Nelson wants to concentrate on his coaching and is trying to beat Lenny Wilkens’ record for the top coach in NBA history for the most wins with retirement as the last thing on his mind.
