Celtics captain and 2008 NBA Finals MVP Paul Pierce is still an underrated player in the NBA, and I do not understand why. He is a certain hall of famer, and of the best all around players of this decade.
Playing on teams that were vastly worse than the rest of the league, and never having a true superstar to team with, Paul Pierce never gained hos respect around the league, and the national media.
Always a great scorer, Pierce has had to do a bit of everything for the Celtics; lead the offense, play the best opposing player on defense, rebound, and lead groups of very young players.
In 2008, after years of hearing the “wait ‘til next year” phrase echoed around Boston, Celtics general manager Danny Ainge traded for superstars Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to help Pierce.
The three all stars put egos and personal satisfaction aside to win one had eluded them their entire careers; a title.
Now that Paul Pierce is more viewable to the world because the Celtics are often on major tv networks, I hope fans look at Pierce and see the great all time player he really is. Is fundamentally sound, and plays the game with passion and sportsmanship.
