Presence of Garnett
Kevin Garnett is again active on the Boston Celtics floor. He was out of action for 13 games due to his strained right knee. In the absence of this big man, the team had a record of 7-6. On 20th March 2009, he returned to play and since then, the Celtics have created a record of 3-0. After his comeback, he has hit 15 out of the 21 shots. This proves how useful he is in the team. >
For the Celtics, whatever playing time Garnett uses, it is soothing to view this No. 5 player stretching opposite defenses with this mid-range jumper and anchoring the defense. Paul Pierce, the forward of Celtics, commented that when the starting five of the team are present on the floor, there is a good chemistry amongst them. The members of the Celtics do not like to see Garnett on the bench but on the floor.
Injuries to players
The depth of the Celtics has been hampered by the injuries. Leon Powe, who is the team’s workhorse, is out with a knee strain. Tony Allen’s left thumb was injured on 11th February 2009 and has not played after that. He would attempt to play during the last week of the season. The head coach of the Celtics, Doc Rivers revealed that the team would like to have home court advantage but the issue of health is much more important. If the team is not going to achieve the first seed then it intends to be healthy first.
