After 20 years in the NBA, Carmelo Anthony confirms his retirement. The 10-time NBA All-Star was one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the league.

He played his last game in April 2022 for the Los Angeles Lakers. He confirmed his retirement in a video posted to his Instagram account.

In the video, he said:

“I remember the days when I had nothing, just a ball on the court and a dream with something more.

“But basketball was my outlet. My purpose was strong. My communities, the cities I represented with pride, and the fans that supported me along the way.”

Anthony joined the NBA in 2003. He spent the majority of his career with the Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks. In the later part of his career, he also played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers.

Over a span of two decades, he has scored 28,289 points at an average of 22.5 points per game. This puts him at number 9 on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

He also won three gold medals at the Olympics as part of the US Mens Basketball team in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

“I am forever grateful for those people and places because they made me,” he added.

“But now the time has come for me to say goodbye: to the court where I made my name, to the game that gave me purpose and pride.”
