Anthony Davis’ efforts paid off Wednesday night as the Los Angeles Lakers won Game 1 (117-112) against the Golden State Warriors in Round 2 of the NBA Playoffs.
“We’ve been playing playoff basketball for about 2 1/2 months now just to punch our clock to be able to play right now in the postseason,” James said.
“We were very resilient tonight. … We know how great they are on their home floor, so to withstand that, it’s another good step for our ballclub.”
LeBron James no longer has to do it all on his own. Davis’ stepped up to the plate Wednesday night and led his team to a win, scoring 30 points, 23 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 blocks, prompting James to say that Davis’s jersey should be retired.
“The Lakers franchise over the years, over the course of their existence, has always had dominant big men, dominant guys that have been a force at the rim,” James said.
“It’s why their jerseys are in the rafters and AD will be up there when he’s done playing. The No. 3 will be up in the rafters and he continues to show why he’s one of the best players that we have in the league.”
Certainly, the game did not go the way of the Warriors, and Golden State veteran, Draymond Green believes he is to blame. After the game, he took to “The Draymond Green Show” to explain.
“I played like s–t. I am disgusted with myself right now.”
He also stuck up for teammate Jordan Poole who unfortunately missed a three-point shot late in the match, which was ridiculed by fans.
Of that, Greene said: “There were some things that I personally could have done to make sure we weren’t even in that situation.”
The Warriors will try to even the score in Game 2 on Thursday night at Chase Center.
