LeBron James has moved a step closer to becoming the NBA’s all-time leading point scorer after going past 38,000 points in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 113-112 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday.
Four-time NBA MVP James becomes the second player in NBA history to reach the milestone behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
James now has Abdul-Jabbar’s record of 38,387 career points, with the Lakers forward up to 30,024.
The 38-year-old is averaging 29.2 point, 8.4 rebounds and 6.9 assists this season, meaning he is on track to surpass Abdul-Jabbar’s mark next month, assuming he maintains that pace.
Despite his latest accomplishment, James wasnt in any mood to be discussing individual accolades after a narrow defeat.
However, James did speak of the milestone prior to the season.
“To sit here and to know that I’m on the verge of breaking probably the most sought-after record in the NBA, things that people said would probably never be done, I think it’s just super humbling for myself,” James told reporters in October.
Two-time Lakers NBA champion Pau Gasol was among those to congratulate James on his latest honour, along with three-time NBA MVP Magic Johnson.
“I never thought I’d see another NBA player score 38,000 points in my lifetime,” Johnson wrote on Twitter.
