Poole agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Golden State Warriors that was worth $140 Million. Hours later, it was announced that Wiggins had also agreed to a contract extension, also for four years. His was worth $109 Million.
The contract extension announcements occurred a week after it was leaked that Green and Poole were involved in a training session altercation where Green punched Poole.
Bob Myers, General Manager of the Warriors said that the incident did not have an impact on the contract extension deals.
“The Draymond incident didn’t have any impact on how we moved through these things,” Myers said on Sunday. “These had been ongoing discussions.”
“We’ve been talking to Andrew’s representatives, that was a little bit quieter,” Myers added.
“I think a lot of people assume that might not get done, but those conversations have been going on for two months.
“Jordan agreed to pick up later and had a sense that we have a good opportunity to get it done. Wasn’t sure where it was going to end up, but as far as after the [NBA] Finals and the victory, we organizationally felt like these are two guys we really want to keep and see if we can do it.”
“As we got closer, we got a sense that there was a good intention from the agency side, from the player’s side, and certainly from ours to try to figure out a path to getting them both done,” Myers added.
Both Wiggins and Poole are expected to remain in the Bay Area for the foreseeable future.
