In speaking to reporters after the altercation with Poole, Green said that he will be taking some time off and away from the team to work through some things and give his teammates the space they need.
“I’m going to take a few days away, because, quite frankly if I’m being honest, it’s hard for me to walk up to Jordan right now,” Green told reporters.
“I’ll take some time and work through my things, allow him and this team to work through their things separate of me because there will be a time to work through those things with me. I look forward to those times.”
The team has not announced how they are planning to punish Green for the incident. They had hoped to handle the event internally until a video of the altercation was leaked by TMZ Sports.
Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors said that the decision for Green to step away was made mutually.
“Mutual decision,” Kerr said. “Based on everything that’s happened and discussions behind the scenes.”
The problem for some of his teammates is that Green is a repeat offender and this is not the first time he had this issue.
“I am a very flawed human being,” Green said.
“I personally know those flaws better than anyone. The work that I’ve done to correct those flaws has been tremendous and yet there’s still a very long way to go. That’s a constant work in progress. I’m a constant work in process.”
“From a human being standpoint, from a personal standpoint, I have some things to fix,” Green said. “And I’m going to fix those things.”
“You apologize with words,” he said. “But, ultimately, your actions show your apologies. I’ve apologized with my words to my team and to Jordan. And now I will allow my actions to show my apology.”
“Hurt people hurt people,” he said. “I was in a very contentious space that morning, dealing with some things that are very near and dear to me. And I hurt someone because I was in a place of hurt. For that, I have apologized.
“You apologize with words, but, ultimately, your actions show your apologies. I’ve apologized with my words to my team and to Jordan. And now I will allow my actions to show my apology.”
