Three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Rudy Golbert, has said that his mission with his new team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, is to simply just win.
“The goal is to win a championship, that’s what I came here to do,” said Gobert.
As per the Timberwolves’ statement, they said that they had acquired Gobert “in exchange for guards Patrick Beverley, Malik Beasley and forward Jarred Vanderbilt, along with guard Leandro Bolmaro, the draft rights to center Walker Kessler and Minnesota’s 2023, 2025, 2027 and 2029 first-round picks and a 2026 first-round pick swap.”
30-year-old Gobert had had nine seasons in the NBA, spent with the Utah Jazz. For six straight years, he had been instrumental in helping the Jazz reach the playoffs.
The Frenchman, nicknamed The Stifle Tower is joining that already has Karl-Anthony Towns. Gobert admitted that he was initially unsure how having two towering players would work. But after thinking about it for a while, he said, “My goal is to make Karl a better player on both ends, make his life easier.
Elsewhere, the New Orleans Pelicans signed Zion Williamson to a rookie extension contract.
“For the Pelicans to come give me this birthday gift, I’m not going to let them down,” said Williamson. “I’m not going to let the city down, or my family down, and most of all I’m not going to let myself down.
The Washington Wizards also announced that they had re-signed Bradley Beal.
Speculation as to whether or not Kevin Durant will be traded away from Brooklyn Nets continues. Durant has reportedly expressed his desire to be traded to either the Phoenix Suns or the Miami Heat.
There are four more years and $198 million remaining in Durant’s contract with the Nets.
