Thompson has not played an NBA Basketball Game since Game 6 of the 2019 Finals when he tore his ACL. He has been in recovery since then and missed playing for more than two-and-a-half calendar years.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports that there is much optimism among the Warriors that Thompson could make his return this Sunday (January 9) in their home game against the Cavaliers.
However, no official announcement has been made but the Warriors are expected to make the final decision when they come back home on Friday.
This decision may be the best thing for the Warriors for this season with Stephen Curry having the worst shooting season of his career. And the team is just the 20th-ranked offense since the start of December.
There is no telling how this come-back will be for Thompson or how long it will take him to regain his footing. Or if he is ever going to be the same again, physically. But, his injury should not affect his shooting ability.
Thompson is a well-loved player and many of his fans would surely be happy to see his return to the game.
