NBA Wilson is now the official ball maker in NBA, but players seemed to speak something about the ball. Although there’s not much difference in its physical size, color, and shape, still using NBA Wilson has a different vibe when being used.
Paul George had spoken about the differences and reiterated that the Spalding ball has a different softness that the NBA Wilson never had. He also emphasized his prediction that there will be a lot of missing shots after the drastic ball change.
NBPA President CJ McCollum contradicted George’s statement in a tweet that it is not the ball’s if players are missing shots. He also suggested that a discussion should be made to get players’ feedback, as they are still adjusting to the NBA Wilson basketball.
Many factors might have contributed to lower shooting percentages, such as focusing on free throws and fouls. Hall of Famer Ray Allen also reacted that the shots of today’s players weren’t the same as before, because it seemed as if they are in disagreement with the ball.
The Spalding ball was also experimental in the 2006-07 season, but the microfiber component of the Spalding ball is quite different from what the Wilson ball had. However, the Wilson ball isn’t going anywhere, as the experiment continues. The NBA League has also signed a multi-year partnership with Wilson for the NBA’s 7th anniversary.
