The “Vote for the GOAT” category was one of the highlights of WNBA’s 25th season celebration. This event was presented on Youtube TV at the Footprint Center.
One of the people who sent congratulatory messages was WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, who said that Taurasi deserved the recognition as her fans followed her throughout her WNBA career. Her winning for the GOAT award is a special moment for all of them as they are celebrating the 25th season of the WNBA.
Taurasi has been one of the Phoenix Mercury’s career leaders in points in the regular season and the playoffs. She was selected 14 times in All-WNBA Team, won 3 WNBA Championships, and 2 WNBA Finals MVPs. That’s why it’s never a doubt that she is one of the most promising WNBA players to snitch the GOAT award.
The fan voting was conducted on the official website and mobile app of WNBA and Twitter from September 5-19, 2021. At the same time, they were able to vote for the W25 or WNBA Top 25 players. Aside from the fans, selected women’s basketball pioneers and media members participated in the voting, too.
Taurasi currently holds the record of 19.4 points with 4.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 472 games she participated in. For being hailed as the WNBA GOAT, she received a commemorative trophy and a basketball made of marble and resin.
