On June 6, 1946, the league that is now the Basketball Association of America was born.
It kicked off with a game on November 1 of that season between Toronto Huskies and New York Knicks. The league then merged with the National Basketball League three years later, creating the now NBA. Decades later, the NBA is still alive and is now about to celebrate the milestone of reaching its 75th anniversary.

The league reveals a new logo to commemorate this occasion, unveiled on Wednesday. The 2021-22 season will mark the 75th year of the NBA, commonly known as the diamond anniversary. For this occasion, the NBA takes the diamond literally with its new diamond-shaped logo, unlike the usual rectangular version. The logo does not include the late Kobe Bryant’s silhouette, which might upset his fans.
After Bryant’s untimely passing in 2020, a movement rose to change the logo of the NBA so that it permanently includes Kobe’s silhouette instead of Jerry West’s. But with this Wednesday news, Bryant’s supporters will surely be disappointed. The logo will still feature Wests silhouette embedded into it. The newly revealed logo is a fresh take to the identity of the NBAs iconic Logoman, referring to Jerry West’s silhouette.
Fans knew that the outline on the logo is Wests. However, the NBA still refuses to confirm the truth even when the designer himself admitted to the inspiration behind it. According to the logos designer, Alan Siegel, he based the logo on West’s photo. With the new logo for the leagues 75th anniversary, West, now dubbed Logoman, will be sporting a fresh, new look.
