Philadelphia 76ers President Daryl Morey was penalized $75,000.00 due to his violation of the league’s anti-tampering rule on Monday.
This is because of the reply he made after Stephen Curry complimented his brother, Seth Curry, in a post. Morey shared the picture of Seth with the caption “Join ‘Em.” Unfortunately, the Philadelphia 76ers team was also penalized with the same amount.
Stephen Curry will become a free agent next year, and during the 2021 NBA season, he had an average of 32 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists. It is noted that Stephen Curry had won NBA Most Valuable Player twice, and NBA Championship with the Golden State Warriors thrice.
The Curry brothers did not leave any comments regarding Morey’s violation.
On the same day, Morey clarified his tweet by saying “My goodness folks I am talking about the fact that we are all thrilled Seth Curry is here with the @sixers – nothing else!” It is also noted that this is not Morey’s first-time violation because he was also fined $50,000.00 for violating the same thing in December after he made James Harden a reference before he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets.
In October 2019, he also initiated a controversy, where he tweeted about pro-democracy protestors in Hong Kong which backfired to him and for the Chinese Basketball Association to rebuke him. This also led the CBA and multiple Chinese companies to suspend their business after Morey’s comment on the protest, even though he defensively said that it’s his right to freedom of expression.
